A Holistic History
Founded in 1978, the Aveda brand began as an idea when our founder, Horst Rechelbacher, visited India and Nepal and began to see the many benefits of many of the natural and holistic traditions they have in that region.
The use of nature to expand our internal calm and health was relatively unknown back then, but Horst knew the benefits and he wanted to share them.
It all started with a single shampoo, Shampure™, and that’s all it took to show the world the benefits of nature.
It’s those benefits that still make up our identity, and our passions, today.
An Aromatic Experience
Did you know that Aveda was one of the first brands to utilize aromatherapy? In fact, many people credit our founder, Horst Rechelbacher, with bringing this ancient practice into the mainstream.
